CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Montgomery Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Montgomery Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Montgomery are automatically enrolled into our GED/high school program. Students who complete this program's core classes may participate in an online high school diploma program which is paid for by the center.

ELL Program

Students needing to learn English can enter our English Language Learning (ELL) program. Students in the ELL program are tested to determine their language proficiency levels.

Co-Enrollment Program

Montgomery Job Corps has partnered with the Montgomery Public Schools System to provide career technical training at four of their high schools. Students may choose from the following trades: Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant, Accounting Services, Office Administrator, Facilities Maintenance, Material Handling, Electrical, and Carpentry. Students spend half of the day at the high school for academic training and the other half of the day at our center for career technical training.

Driver's Education

We have a dynamic driver's education program led by a certified driver's education instructor. This program provides students with a detailed understanding of driving fundamentals and promotes responsible driving attitudes and behaviors.

Career Success Standards Training

This program consists of group sessions which develop students' social and interpersonal skills on the job and in everyday life. The career success standards are:

  • Workplace Relationships & Ethics
  • Communication
  • Personal Growth & Development
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Information Management
  • Multicultural Awareness
  • Career & Personal Planning
  • Independent Living

Military Training Unit

The Military Training Unit (MTU) teaches our students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, and personal responsibility. MTU also provides students with self-esteem, teamwork, self-discipline, and a sense of accomplishment. MTU's focus is reflected in its mission statement: "To Build Better Citizens for America."
